$6.49/5 wings or $19.49/20 wings

Quick Takes
Pros: That breading and flavour you love, if you’re a fan of KFC
Cons: Everything else

KFC!  Well if you’re a fan of fried chicken then I’m sure you’ve been there before.  People seem to either love it, or hate it.  I am no stranger to KFC and crave it more than I probably should.  Today was one of those days.  I caved and went with a delivery order for 20 wings.  That probably won’t be happening again anytime soon.  My craving is out of the way now.

Exterior: 5/5

If you’re pro-breading, you’ll like this part of the wing.  It’s crisp and thick, so you can rip chunks off and dip at will (if you’re in to that sort of thing), great stuff!  And to top that off, the breading has built in flavour of course, not just a dull or greasy taste thankfully.  KFC does this part well and I’m giving this category a 5.

Overall Quality: 2/5

We’re probably all on the same page here – I don’t think KFC is synonymous for quality, and this order proved that.

I excitedly popped open the lid on the bucket of 20 wings and the first thing I noticed was a prominent feather.  Not off to a good start.  But … these can be rare finds sometimes, so why not treat them like a good luck charm! (will update later if good luck occurred due to said feather).  I moved past that and happily dug in to a couple of actually good wings.  I posted to social media at that point, but I should have waited until I had more wings, as the quality went downhill quick.

So, a rogue feather isn’t the end of the world.  But sure enough, the more wings I had the worse they seemed to get.  There were bristles along the ridgy edges of the flats, and that’s not great.

I then continue to dig through and I’m finding fatty pieces in the flats (rare, but not as rare as a trusty feather), excess veins and just really unappealing looking along the edges of the flats.

This turned out to be more of picking out the ‘good’ meat (which actually did taste good!) around all the other stuff going on here which you shouldn’t have to do.  So disappointment and that KFC guilty feeling has really set in now.

Pro tip if you order these wings – don’t eat em in the dark, you’ll want to be able to see them to do a thorough inspection or you may get some not so good pieces in your bites.

Size: 4/5

Well, these wings were on the chunky side for sure and a bit larger than your average wing.

Overall Rating: 3.4/5
The breaded exterior was the best part of this experience.  I’ve had better chicken from KFC, so maybe this was an off batch.  I know I’ll get that craving again one of these days, and hopefully we’ll see an overall quality improvement for that meal.
