I’ve been a little slack in the review department lately
so it was finally time to get this posted. On an adventure over the holidays I ended up stopping in at Curly’s in
Enfield for a bite to eat. I’ve stopped
in on my travels before and I’ve had some great food on my previous
visits. I finally decided it was time to
try the wings. Unfortunately the last review of 2012 didn't fly (no pun intended), I'm hoping 2013 will soar to new heights.
The wings are $8.99/pound and there is no wing
night. I was surprised to see the wings
were served on a nice little bed of corn tortilla chips. I am a huge fan of chips, so this was way
better to see than the standard carrot and lettuce bedding that some places
serve wings on.
Breading: 1/5 – The wings had an extremely light breading
to them and is barely worth mentioning.

| Wings on a bed of chips. |
Overall quality: 0/5 – This is the first time I’ve ever
rated this category a zero. It didn’t
take long before I noticed a good sized feather, which usually isn’t a huge
deal, just eat around it and move on however our server walked by right as I
made this discovery and she asked how the wings were.

I’m generally not the type to complain much and I just
held the wing up. She quickly realized
what I was indicating and the look on her face was priceless. She took the wing back and said they would make
me a new batch however I tried a couple other wings and they had a horrible
rancid type taste to them, I’ve never tasted chicken like this before. I explained that I appreciated the offer and
not to bother with the other order, I just don’t want any wings at all at this
point.
Sauce selection: 2/5 – Your choices of sauce include BBQ,
Honey Garlic, Plum, Sweet Chili and Hot.
I went with the Sweet Chili on the side, it was what you would expect
from a Sweet Chili sauce.
Service: 4/5 – We were served fairly quickly, our
waitress was very polite and attentive and I did appreciate the offer for a new
batch of wings. Curly’s has $2.82 drink
specials every night of the week. I
treated myself to a couple of the drinks on sale that evening which ended up
being a Rum Runner (which isn’t a bad drink at all I might add).
At the end of the meal it was time for the bill and based
on the situation with the wings I really wasn’t expecting to see them on
there. When the bill was being handed
out she mentioned due to the wing situation she deducted a Rum Runner off the
bill. That’s a nice gesture, but I still
don’t think I should have been charged anything for the wings.
Size: 3/5 – The wings were a fairly standard size.
Overall rating: 2/5
Even though the wings were extremely horrible I will go
back to Curly’s, I’ll just order something else on their menu and maybe I’ll
even see if they serve side orders of those chips I mentioned, they were really
good.

I would have gone with "Crusty at Curly's" or "Choked on a feather at Curly's" :)
