Burning at Bearly's

** 10/24/16 - This review is pretty old and I've heard the wings have changed a lot recently, so I will be taking a trip in soon to check them out.

I had a craving for wings on Sunday and wanted to try somewhere I haven’t eaten at before so I ended up at Bearly’s which is a little Blues bar located on Barrington Street.

I’ve never been to Bearly’s before but I was glad to find out wings were on special for half price.  They’re regularly $11/pound and only $0.40/wing on Wednesday’s.  I was a little surprised to find out they were not breaded.

I also noticed they have “Bearly’s Famous Ribs” however I wasn’t hungry enough to try the wings and ribs but I must come back to try them.

Breading: n/a – Breading is not an option so this category will not be rated.

Overall quality: 3/5 – The wings were cooked well and didn’t contain and dark meat however there really wasn’t much flavour to them.  I also found a few miniature fine strands of feathers along the ridge of a couple of flatties.  Perhaps this is more prominent on non-breaded wings?
A pretty big sauce container.

Sauce selection: 2/5 – Sauces include Mild, Medium, Hot, Suicide and Honey Garlic.  I went with the Hot on the side and I think this may have been the hottest Hot sauce I have ever consumed, it was excellent.  If you like really hot sauce then you have to try this stuff.  I asked the waitress if it was house made since it really didn’t taste like your typical hot sauce.  She let me know that it was E.D. Smith sauce – 3rd Degree Burn, so I guess that explains the heat.

Service: 4/5 – The waitress was friendly, the food was served quickly and drink refills were offered.

She was also very knowledgeable when I asked questions about the sauce, she knew off the top of her head.  I’ve been to other establishments where they weren’t as familiar with what they were serving.

The wings also arrived with a wet nap which is always nice to see, like seeing an old friend.  Lately I’ve been seeing more carrots and celery sticks with my wings, they don’t do nearly as good of a good of getting your fingers cleaned off after digging through some wings.

Size: 4/5 – The wings were pretty big and meaty.
A meaty non-breaded wing.
Overall rating: 3.25/5

I’m not a huge fan of non-breaded wings however I will return to Bearly’s but I think I’ll try the ribs on my next visit.
