I enjoy the finer things in life, such as chicken wings and beer. I’ve created this blog to share my experiences with fellow wing lovers. My goal is to try as many different wing establishments as possible while rating each one. Feel free to leave any comments/suggestions. Enjoy!
*** Update 10/19/2015 - The wings have recently changed, I need to review them soon ***
It’s been a while since I’ve been to Mexi’s and I’m a fan
of Mexican food and Tequila, so I figured this would be a great place to go to
enjoy a Margarita on such a nice day in Halifax. Who would have thought this would have been
the biggest mistake I’ve made all day? What
the hell happened to this place? I used
to frequent it a bit back when it was located up the street, this is not how I
remember it though.
Mexi’s has been promoting wings and nacho deals on
Thursday’s recently however I soon found out the wing deal has been abolished. I was told this was because
they cannot compete with other places that offer wing specials. I totally agree with them on that, I can’t
believe wings are even an option in the menu. This just might have been the worst $11.99 I've spent in my life.
Breading: n/a – The wings were not breaded, so this
category goes unrated.
Overall quality: 2/5 – These wings did not look good as
soon as they arrived, puny and shriveled up are a couple of words that could
describe them. They were cooked, so that’s
good I guess.
Carrot sticks with wings on the side.
Small feather, but still, it's a feather.
Sauce selection: 2/5 – Your options are mild, medium,
hot, honey garlic, suicide or hot and honey.
I went with the hot and honey on the side. The sauce was the best part of the meal.
Service: 1/5 – This category managed to get a point only
because food actually arrived on the table.
It seemed odd when we initially sat down and waited almost 15 minutes
for someone to come by and offer a drink and provide a menu. Even though she was cleaning the tables all
around us for the majority of the time we were waiting. We were greeted with a “Did you just sit
down?”. Yes, 15 minutes ago. Apparently we are supposed to be waited to be
seated however I made it a point to look for one of those signs before I
entered, no sign and no one standing next to the door to let us know to hang on
for a minute, so that’s why I walked in a took a seat at one of the numerous
empty tables I seen.
I was a little irritated that it took so long just to see
a menu, but then she took off for another 10 minutes even before our drink
orders were taken. A couple of things were
missing when the food and my Margarita finally arrived, cutlery and napkins (I realize you don’t
need a fork to eat wings however there was more food than just wings). Thankfully all the clean empty tables around
us had nice shiny forks waiting to be used, so we helped ourselves to
those. Luckily a drink refill was
offered during the meal, I needed something to wash my wings down with and
decided to order a beer. It arrived
after the meal was finished anyway. And
it was flat, seemed a fitting way to get this experience over with.
Size: 2/5 – The wings were pretty small, even the
drumsticks were pretty lame.
I'd almost rather chew on the fork.
Overall rating: 1.75/5
I was really disappointed Mexi’s ended up with such a low
rating, I used to be a huge fan of this place years ago, it was always nice to
stop in for a few Margaritas. The next
time I’m in the area and feel like some Tequila, I’ll be sure to visit a
different establishment, there is certainly no shortage of them around.
