I’ve been meaning to go back to the Oasis for quite some time, and after learning they just got voted the third best place in Halifax for wings as per The Coast Best Of Food, I was looking forward to sinking my teeth in them.

I arrived pretty early in the evening and it didn’t take long for the place to get really busy.  I was hoping this was a sign that the wings were going to be amazing but that wasn’t the case, I think a lot if it had to do with the $10 pitchers of beer.

Wings are on for $0.30/wing on Thursday’s.  Regular price is $0.60/wing.

Breading: 2/5 – Fairly light, sporadic and no flavor.

Overall quality: 1/5 – The wings were overcooked, the chicken was really dry and there was plenty of really dark meat.  I really don’t understand how this place was voted the third best place in Halifax for wings.
Lots of dark meat
Sauce selection: 3/5 – Sauces include mild, medium, hot, suicide, atomic, blue cheese, ranch, sweet Thai chili and BBQ.

Service: 4/5 – The service was pretty good and our waitress kept coming back to check on us.

Size: 4/5 – The wings were a consistent good size (minus the one jumbo wing that wasn’t split).  But, as I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I generally find the bigger the wings are the lower they get in quality.

Pretty good sized wing.

Giant un-split wing.
Total rating: 3/5 - Sometimes I don't like my own rating scale, I really don't feel these wings deserve a 3 out of 5. I guess this goes to show what a good sized wing and good service can get.

Overall, the Oasis is a great environment and I always have a good time there however, next time I go I’ll try something different on the menu while enjoying what they are good at – cheap beer.

  1. It's hit or miss with this place. When they are good they are really good. But bad is usually pretty disgusting. I've had a lot of luck on Saturday night. Probably because it's less busy.

    1. I've had a lot of people tell me that. Some people swear by the wings at the Oasis. Perhaps I'll go back on a less busy night one of these days and try them. I enjoyed the $10 pitchers of beer more than the wings the last time I went.

  2. Had wings here tonight. They were dry, not overly large, and one of my friends' sauces (thai, on the side) was just a cup of jelly. Impossible to dip the wing into.

    1. Haha, that's horrible. I'm a fan of the cheap beer at the Oasis but not the wings.

  3. Worst wing experience of my life! Asked for a dozen wings and was served about two dozen pieces of deep fried - some sort of animal - it couldn't have been from a chicken. Never again!

  4. My husband went one time and there were feathers on the wings, he mentioned this to the waitress and she said " we can't get them all " and walked away.

  6. $.49 wings and $10 pitcher tonight and the only good thing about the experience was the beer. Wings were small, overcooked and just terrible. I finished 14 of 20 and asked for the rest to go and the waitress who bugged me the whole time I was there said they had to charge full price ($1 each) for everyone I took home. I told her they weren't worth a dollar, paid my bill and left for the last time.
